Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro for youth in Brazil

35% of Brazilians, or 68 million people, live on less than two dollars a day.  This New Year’s Eve Shawn and her parents, Tom and Inger Crump will be summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro to help change this!  They will be raising funds to support the work of ADCAM in Manaus, Brazil to provide education and training to youth that are in the greatest need.

Shawn is living in Northern Brazil for four months before the trek and wishes to tie her experiences together in an impacting manner. Shawn and her parents realize the importance of a quality education, especially in San Jose, a poverty stricken neighborhood of Manaus, Brazil. ADCAM, the Association for Cohesive Development of the Amazon, provides education for disadvantaged children and serves the community in various other ways. One of their programs is vocational training for teens with an end goal of placing them on a successful career path to raise themselves and their families out of the cycle of poverty.

Shawn and her parents will trek from December 26th, 2013 through January 1st, 2014. The trek starts at 1950 meters (6398 feet) and summits at 5895 meters (19341 feet) on December 31st, 2013. From the start to the summit of the trek of Kilimanjaro is 3945 meters. This is how the Crump family decided on the fundraising goal for the campaign, $3,945.

Please join Shawn and her parents on their trek and support their effort to improve the lives of countless teens and their families in Manaus, Brazil. You can help them reach their goal of $3945 – just one U.S. dollar for every meter in elevation they hike.  Join us in building a better world!
